I recently observed an act of compassion that left an impression on me, an act that nobody except myself and the two people involved would ever know about.

As I was parking my car on the street I noticed an elderly disabled man in a wheelchair about 50 metres away coming towards me. He was moving extremely slowly, inching forwards, and appeared to be having difficulty turning the wheels.

A woman was walking towards me on the other side of the street, she looked over to the man and crossed the road. They spoke briefly, she took the chair, and proceeded to push him along. They passed me as I was getting out of the car.

I smiled.

I wish I’d said hello and taken a moment to talk with them. It was the most memorable thing that happened to me that day.

It should be how we all act. I am writing about it so I won’t forget.
